Danish citizenship — check your position
Answer one question at a time. We will tell you which route applies to you, what you still need, and the exact dates you reach each condition.
Which routes does it cover?
- Citizenship by birth and descent, including co-mothers and co-fathers
- The 22-year rule and retention of citizenship
- Nordic citizens: declaration under § 3 and eased naturalisation
- Former Danish citizens and people of Danish descent
- Stateless people, including those born in Denmark
- Children and adoption
- Special ties: arrived as a child, educated in Denmark, South Schleswig, Greenland and the Faroe Islands
- Naturalisation: all ten conditions, with exemptions and dispensations
Your answers never leave your browser
Everything you answer is evaluated inside your own browser. There is no account, and no server of ours that could receive your answers — they are saved only locally and you can delete them at any time. The site is paid for by advertising and uses Google Analytics to count visits, and both set cookies. Neither receives your answers: we can see that a page was opened, never which route you are on or what you told the checker.
What this tool will not do
It will not guess in your favour. Where an answer is uncertain, you get an honest “this needs an individual assessment” rather than a comfortable maybe. Citizenship by naturalisation is granted by act of Parliament and is never a right, even when every condition is met.
This tool provides general guidance based on the Danish Consolidated Act on Nationality, the Circular on Naturalisation and published conditions. It is not legal advice. Always confirm at uim.dk, nyidanmark.dk and lifeindenmark.borger.dk.
